Acklins
Island
A
new small guesthouse on the beach immediately adjacent to
the bonefish flats. Acklins is a quiet island, with few
people, and vast spaces of superb bonefish habitat.
The flats are some of the best wading anywhere, and the
fish are above-average in size. Top Choice Lodge is a new
place with all the comforts, cheerful local owners and
managers, well-trained, eager guides, and new
shallow-draft skiffs. This is a great place for those who
love solitude, but don't want to sacrifice comforts for
excellent fishing.
We're fishing the west side of Acklins here,
so there are moderate tides, wind protection, and many
areas that are completely untouched. Bonefish from
4 to 6 pounds abound here, and there are quite enough permit,
jacks, barracuda, and other species to keep things
interesting.
Don't go to Acklins expecting extensive
tourist services. The population here is roughly
300 souls. If you're looking for nightlife, better
go to Nassau or Freeport. If, however, you're on a
quest for a place to fish all week without seeing another
boat, this is your bell ringing.
Weekly packages of 7 nights with meals, and 6 days of guided
fishing are $2,150 per person, double occupancy.
